RUBEN'S PALM GRILL

Tony Pasten, the owner of EL JEFE Market says: I have been open for close to 3 years and my vision here is to have a market with a variety of items, good quality and be open to customer suggestions on what they want in stock  and to have the best  service around with a clean environment. We offer cell phone air time, Telcel, and Movistar, small 5k gas tank or propane gas, we also have public phone booth, the customer will find products and items not found at any other store or convenience store like oxxo. Make El Jefe Mini Market your store of choice and you will be pleasantly surprise at the variety and quality of products! We also want you to have a voice on what new items will be added to our stock. We aim to have the best service and quality of products. I am currently working on having an ATM installed here at the store.

Store Phone (661) 614-3214, we are located at km 47 on the corner across from Farmacia Cantamar and right next to Farmacia Similares.

Taco Cantamar

"While getting gas (the automobile kind) at the Cantamar Pemex today, I also got lunch to go from Tacos Cantamar, the stand that is between the Pemex and the lighthouse, next to Ruben's Palm Grill. They have been here for maybe five years. Great food, consistently good. The kitchen is kept immaculately clean and the food handling is meticulous - everything is visible.

The battered fish and shrimp tacos are prepared to order. The carne asada is grilled over charcoal. They have fish bouillon (cuahuamata) that locals from Tijuana (thirty plus miles away) drive down to enjoy.

While I was waiting, one guy that was there told the cooks, "Soy chilango". Whether that is a compliment or a boast, or a bit of both, I don't know, but he kept ordering taco after taco and smacking his lips loudly.

If you go, don't forget to ask for the complimentary "cebollitas asado", lightly charcoal grilled green onions - delish. Sometimes they have "rellenos" - jalapenos stuffed with crab meat.

The family has a restaurant in Puerto Nuevo, Restaurante Sandra's. We haven't tried it yet, but I asked our cocinero at the taco stand today if they served "langosta vive" and he replied with an emphatic, "Si!"" Gypsy Jan www.chowhound.chow.com.
