Our most recent days of sunshine & warmth here in Baja seem to be an early reminder of things to come as soon as spring arrives! I should have many beautiful days to explore and share with you soon! There is soooo much to do here in Baja, I only wish I had the time and space to tell you about it all! Spring vacation is just around the corner...and we have many beautiful oceanfront homes, condos & hotels just 30- 45 minutes from San Diego that you and your family can enjoy for affordable rates.
On my most recent visit to the wine country here in northern Baja, I toured the beautiful boutique hotel La Villa del Valle with a friend. www.lavilladelvalle.com Eileen Gregory, the owner of this beautiful villa, was there when we arrived. I was most impressed with the artwork & decor and the quiet elegance of the place. There are 6 beautifully furnished suites, as well as several rooms inside & outside patio areas to just relax and enjoy...the main activity here...I am looking forward to going back for the day, with a group to enjoy cooking & herb classes there. They have several varieties of soaps, scents, herbs & jams that are made on the property that you can purchase there. E-mail is the best way to make your reservations info@lavilladelvalle.com Mexico phone (646) 183-9249 (From U.S. you have to dial first 011-521) USA phone (818) 207-7130
For an afternoon of sightseeing and wine tasting, the Valle de Guadalupe cannot be matched. I still haven't been to all of the 60 + wineries, restaurants & hotels there!! One could easily spend several days there enjoying the sights & culinary pleasures of the area, as well as touring nearby Ensenada. After our tour, we went to the nearby La Cetto winery for some serious wine tasting. La Cetto is known for being the largest exporter of Mexican wines. Go to their beautiful website and learn more. http://www.cettowines.com/ A day of touring the wine country is not complete without a visit to "La Hacienda"...a restaurant & nursery, owned & managed by by Alfredo Castenada. Here I am, just beginning to enjoy a classic margarita before my lunch at the Restaurant & Nursery La Hacienda, http://restauranteyviverolahacienda.com, which is located in a grove of 400 year old "Encino trees"in San Antonio de las Minas, a small village located in the south western area of the wine valley...approximately 6 miles from the ocean coast. This is a MUST DO! whenever you go to the wine country here...not only is the gourmet food beautifully prepared and extremely affordable (lunch menus from $7/plate), but the ambience (linen tablecloths/napkins) and the 5 star service is impeccable!! They also do a Sunday brunch! They are open 7 days/ week 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (646) 155-3160
For those of us who travel between the US & Baja, the latest news is the road construction that will be going on for the next 3 months on the road that parallels the US/Mexico border. Go to our link for additional info International Border News.
