YUM! This beautifully decorated and serene restaurant is new in town
and serves deliciously healthy Japanese food delicately cooked
with flavors & spices...which will satisfy the most discriminating
taste buds! I enjoyed my first of many to come... lunches there
recently. My shrimp & vegetable tempura plate was so fresh &
large enough for 2 people to enjoy! This first class meal, in an
upscale restaurant with wonderful service was only $9.95. This
Sushi Teriyaki Restaurant is located just next door to Puerto Nuevo
and has a peek-a-boo ocean view now, but when they build the 2nd
story "sushi bar" you will have an unbelievable view of the ocean.

It's that time of year again...FALL is fast approaching, children go back to school and life begins to take on a more structured feeling. In southern California, where I am from, the weather usually remains HOT until October, and it is no different here in Baja.
On Sunday, August 21, I attended the 23rd
Annual
Fish & Seafood Festival at the
Rosarito
Beach
Hotel. WOW! what an event, LIVE music all afternoon on the grassy area
in front of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. So many fabulous vendors selling
their fine foods, wines & artistry. Some of my favorites were:
Ketzo, a boutique Gourmet Food
vendor from Tijuana, selling their antibiotic & hormone free cheeses,
yogurt with probiotics, olive oils, pastas, oysters, & vegetables. (664)

from Playas Tijuana, also selling artisanal natural cheeses, breads. Watch

represented there was the Instituto de
Gastronomia y Turismo. Their most delicious gastronomical
delights were cooked up & presented by their students. YUM!
Several
Baja retiree friends of mine & I attended a "Do Wap" concert sung by the
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL group NDemand
, from the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. Baja Sol, a newly re-opened
restaurant in La Mision sponsored this GREAT GROUP! ($10 cover charge
only!) What an evening...all of us were reminded of our past, with songs
from the 50's, 60's!! This group was
Las Vegas 2010 BMA
Award Winners! This vocal quartet performs acapella and/or with a smokin'
rhythm section. Be sure to go to their website...and if they are
ever in your area of the world...DON"T MISS THEM!!
It is really a joy living here! Best thing i have ever done! There are so many exciting events & developments going on here in northern Baja, without the traffic and the high costs in the US. See below for more!
**Casa
de Luz "House of Light," is a Children's
Center & Community Center, located in Primo Tapia, Baja California,
Mexico, opened the end of August.
It is truly a beautiful center!

"House of Light," This center is a partnership between the local La
Hermosa Church and the Abbotsford Vineyard. Casa de Luz is a transitional
home for children that will provide meals and care for children during the
day, help with school work, and offer practical, emotional and spiritual
support for families. This project will help families remove their
children from full-time orphanages due to economic hardship and will
enable other families to keep their children at home, rather than placing
them in full time orphanage care.
How cool is this..Rosarito Beach now has it's own English speaking TV show!!??

Just a little personal news flash: I'm doing the first English-language news and interview program in Baja, and they posted one of the programs on their YouTube site. This is just some local news, so you won't necessarily want to watch (so I attached a pic). It's great practice for me to improvise on TV. Part of the challenge is that I get last-minute things in Spanish and machine-translated English (bad!) and I have to think fast so that it sounds as smooth as possible (and remember, I'm a beginner at this). A great challenge for me, since it's only been about six months since I have really felt "back in focus" after brain trauma. So we're still here, it's still safe. Let us know if you're going to visit. :>)
By the way, the Second Annual Mariachi Festival will be super festive (first weekend in October). Proceeds go to build a Boys and Girls Club in Rosarito. Cheap seats, too! Lots of Americans come to the event. The Rosarito Beach Hotel, where it takes place, is a cool, historic hotel, but in excellent condition.
